People who are in the market to purchase a new Apple iPod are probably very enthusiastic of using it immediately. However, you may want to read up on how to keep your new iPod running and looking great for many years. Primarily because buying a new Apple iPod is going to cost you more than just a few dollars, you want to be sure you’re taking all the steps that you can to keep it in good shape, so that your money is not going to go to waste. The following are a few tips to prevent or fix one or more of the following problems that may spring up in an Apple iPod, particularly that of a dead battery on your ipod. If you do not want to be tethered to a plug because you want to keep your Apple iPod running, you need to keep your battery in good shape. Even though Apple computer strives to build an electronic product that has a long lasting battery life, the reality is that every now and then batteries wear out. While this is certainly something that is undesirable, it can happen, and you should be aware of what to do if it does happen, as well as how to minimize risk that your battery will wear out soon.

One good rule of thumb is to keep your Apple iPod away from extremes in weather. Even if you plan to be in the grocery store or bank for just a minute, don’t fall temptation to leaving your iPod in the car, since extremely warm or extremely cold temperatures can damage the battery. When you are not using the Apple iPod, make sure to put it in sleep mode so you’re not running the battery down.

If Your Battery Goes Dead

When the first Apple iPods came out, replacement batteries were not originally offered. Instead, Apple’s expectations were that by the time the battery needed replacement, users would purchase a refurbished Apple iPod at a high price. After some highly publicized complaints from users about battery problems, including a class-action lawsuit, Apple developed a battery replacement program that cost much less than the original cost of fixing an Apple iPod with a bad battery.

If you are a kind of a do-it-yourself person and are looking for a battery that will last longer on an individual charge, there are aftermarket products built by third-party companies that offer replacement kits that include batteries that often have more power than the batteries that are included with Apple iPods. It is important to note, though, of some difficulties with a few models: for example iPod nanos batteries are soldered directly onto the main board, and the newer iPods batteries are glued to the back plate. Even if you do not have one of these two models, be careful if you are considering handling the battery itself. If you’re not sure, get your battery replaced by Apple instead. But with some consideration and following the guidelines above, your Apple iPod battery will last quite a long time.
